Manage product images and alt text

Review the generated cover, add and reorder product photos in the media manager, and give every storefront image a useful title and alt description.

Product images help shoppers understand the item before they open personalization. Composerie can add an automatically generated image for the primary material, and you can add more images from the product page.

Review the photos

Open the product and look at the media strip in Overview, beside the name and description. It shows the first photos and a count, with a tile such as “+3” when there are more. The first photo is the cover. It is also the image social-media link previews use.

Select Add image to pick photos from your media library, or upload new ones there. Select any photo, or Manage all, to open the media manager.

The Overview section holds the product name, the description, and the product photos.

The publish checklist recommends an image for every visible variant. Missing images do not stop you from publishing, but one clear image is the minimum a shopper needs, so add other views when they help the shopper understand size, material, or placement.

Work in the media manager

The media manager shows every product photo in one grid, with the cover marked by a Cover badge. Drag photos to change their order; the first photo is the cover. Mockups made in Mockup studio keep the order Mockup studio gives them, so you reorder only your own photos around them. Use Media library or the upload area to add photos, and New mockup to make one in Mockup studio.

Select a photo to see its details. It holds a Title and Alt text, a Set as cover action, and Replace, Download and Delete photo. A mockup also offers Edit in Mockup studio. When the product has mockups from Mockup studio, Mockup studio sets the cover, so Set as cover is not offered. On a phone, the grid and the selected photo are separate screens.

Your changes in the manager are a draft until you close it. Select Done to hand them to the page save bar, then save the product. Select Discard to drop them.

Three jobs, one image, and only one of them is obvious from the gallery.

Add a short internal title and alt text that describes what is visible. Good alt text is specific to the image, for example: “Framed coastal route poster in a light oak frame.” Avoid repeating the product title alone or adding phrases such as “image of.”

Use Replace to update the file without losing its place in the order. Use Delete photo only after confirming another suitable cover remains. A deleted photo disappears from your stores when you save the product.

How many images are required?

None are strictly required to publish, but the publish checklist recommends an image for every visible variant. One clear image is the minimum a shopper needs.

Which image is the cover?

The first photo in the media manager is the cover. Social-media link previews use it too.

Where do I add alt text?

Open the media manager, select the photo, then use its Alt text field. Select Done and save the product.

Should every image use the same alt text?

No. Describe the distinct angle, material, color, or personalization visible in each image.

Why can I not drag a mockup?

Mockups made in Mockup studio keep the order Mockup studio gives them. In the media manager you drag your own photos around them.
