If your plan is not active, Composerie does not lock you out and it does not quietly keep going either. It stops one specific half of the product: the half that writes to your Shopify store. This guide shows you which half is which, so a blocked publish does not read as a broken app.
What stops and what does not
The message on a blocked action says the same thing every time: active billing is required before publishing to Shopify. It carries a link to Settings, Billing, which is where the fix is.
The important half is the right-hand one. A shopper on your storefront does not see anything different, an order that arrives is still received and recorded, and nothing you have already published comes down. What you lose is the ability to change what is out there.
Which states count as active
A trial is fully entitled, which is the point of a trial: you can build, publish and sell during it.
A failed payment is the state worth acting on quickly. Publishing still works, so nothing forces you to notice, and the reason is usually a card that needs attention in Shopify rather than anything about Composerie. The dashboard raises it as Payment failed, with the note that your last payment did not go through.
The other billing states arrive the same way: Subscription canceled when the plan was cancelled, Finish setting up billing when the subscription is incomplete, and Trial ending soon while a trial runs out. Each links straight to the billing page, so the usual way merchants find out is on the home screen rather than from a failed action.
Fixing it
Composerie does not take the payment, so the fix is in Shopify. Open Settings, then Billing, and use Manage in Shopify. See approve Shopify billing for the approval screen itself and manage your subscription for changing a card.
Once Shopify processes the change, the Composerie billing page reflects it. Refresh if it looks out of date.
Common questions
My products disappeared from my store. Is that billing?
No. Nothing already published is taken down when a plan lapses. If a product vanished, look at the publication and your theme instead.
I cannot publish and the dashboard says my payment failed.
A failed payment does not block publishing on its own, so the block is coming from somewhere else. Check the publication's own readiness rather than billing.
Do orders still arrive while billing is inactive?
Yes. Orders keep being received and recorded, so nothing is lost while you sort the plan out.
Why does the page say a reconciliation is required?
Composerie found conflicting billing records for the account and paused billing actions rather than guessing. Contact support to have it resolved.
Can I use Composerie without connecting Shopify billing at all?
Not on the Shopify route. Composerie bills Shopify merchants through Shopify app billing, and the approval is part of setup.
