This guide shows you how to read the Usage section in your billing settings. It is for any merchant who wants to see how many personalized items they have sold this period and what their transaction fee is likely to be. You will learn what each number means and where it comes from.

Where to find your usage

Open the dashboard and go to Settings, then Billing. Scroll down to the section titled Usage this period. This is where Composerie tracks your personalized orders for the current billing month.

The period shown is your current billing month. Composerie counts items from the start of that period up to right now.

The numbers update as new orders come in. Each time a customer buys a personalized product, your billable item count and projected fee move up. You do not need to refresh or recalculate anything yourself.

What each number means

The Usage this period section shows three cards. Here is what each one tells you.

Billable items is the count of personalized items in this period that are counted according to your Shopify-approved usage terms. If your approved terms include a future billing start date or trial period, items outside the billable window are excluded here.

Current usage status is the usage band or meter state you are in right now. Composerie mirrors the usage terms approved in Shopify, so the card reflects the terms attached to your active subscription. To see how items are counted, read usage fees explained.

Projected fee is an estimate of this month’s usage fee, based on the billable items counted so far and the terms approved in Shopify. If usage charges are not active yet, the card shows that no projected usage fee is currently due. The card caption reads “Estimated usage fee for the current month.”

Below the three cards is a detail line. It shows how many of this period’s items are billable out of the total, in the form “{billable} of {total} personalized items this billing period are billable”. This is helpful when some items fall outside the current billable window.

Why is my projected fee empty or zero?

Usage charges may not be active yet, or there may be no billable personalized items in the current period. The Billing page follows the terms approved in Shopify.

Why is the billable count lower than my total orders?

Some orders may not contain personalized items, or they may fall outside the current billable window. The detail line shows billable items out of the total for the period.

Does the projected fee include my subscription cost?

No. The projected fee estimates only your usage fee for the month. Your plan subscription is separate.
